British War and Victory Medals (F. Heathfield); French War Ministry’s ‘Devouement Epidemies’ Medal, bronze, the reverse officially embossed ‘Miss F. Heathfield, 1917’,
Footnote: Arthur Heathfield may have been entitled to the 1914-15 Star for his services in France in the “Catholic Club” from January 1915.
Florence Heathfield witnessed active service as a Sister in the French Red Cross from September 1916 to March 1917.
Lt. A. Heathfield was commissioned on 20 September 1917 to be Lt. whilst employed as a Railway Transport Officer.
Florence Heathfield appears on the medal roll of the Serbian Relief Fund with service as follows: Serbian Relief Fund 1/4/1915-23/8/1915; France 6/9/1916-25/3/1917; Other Theatres 16/12/1915-5/6/1916.
The period in Serbia Coincides withthe arrival of the 3rd SRF Unit under Mrs. St. Clair Stobart but she is not listed as a member of this unit in the published rolls. I would suspect that the other theatres dates refer to Salonika where the majority of the British Units retreated after the Austrian Invasion of Serbia.
