The original recommendation for an immediate award states: "In the action of Long Ridge (5258) on 22 Feb 1944 this Naik was commanding the leading section of a Platoon which was ordered to attack the enemy from the left flank. When his scouts contacted the enemy he immediately brought his L.M.G. into action but the gunner was wounded. In a short time every other man of his section was wounded.
